Conclusion
I and a group of other designers worked on the 2024 Paris Olympics for TEGNA. We worked on the style, design, and motion graphics that would cover the entirety of the Olympics. The main motion pieces that I worked on were Rules of the Game gymnastics and soccer, and Torch Relay that showed the starting point and ending point of the torch traveling to the Olympics.
The design of the Olympics had some strict look to it. The original look and style was sent over to CBS and we were able to customize the look a bit to fit a more unique TEGNA style. We pulled in the paper look a bit more and had to use the same colors that NBC was using. The motion design and other graphics we had more creative freedom over and could make it interesting and unique in that way.
Starting on graphics I wanted to gather all the assets and planned out what and where I would need it. I knew rotobrushing athletes would take some time and wanted to get that out of the way so I had no interruptions when designing. I also created and used some vector graphics and rigged them to showcase motion and continuous movement.
The full graphics came together nicely using footage, stills, and vector graphics to illustrate the narrator’s voice over. For the torch relays I used Geolayers to easily create the scene and move around the world matching point to point. The full graphics consisted of a few paper textures, gold texture, and grain textures to create a paper collage look that would be shown through the whole package.
The package went out at the start of the Olympics with a few graphics being made throughout the sporting event. My graphics had no revisions that came through and were received well.
