Conclusion

This is a personal project I created in my free time. I wanted something that would be more communal and engaging than other chat services apps. I came up with the idea when I was playing destiny 2 and wanted to have a guild based chat app that would create a goal driven and creative community that would help with gamers mental health. One of the things I learned and saw a problem with is Gamers wanted to expand their communities, but with things like gate keeping or tight knit groups its hard to break into those areas.

I first started by interviewing gamers that used discord from varying ages. Ones that used to play wow and used teamspeak and ones that used discord because of the pandemic. The consensus was that most users loved the community aspect that games brought but there was a shift that decreased finding random people online to play with and put people in a more clique based group that was exclusively friends. Most interviewers had no idea that discord even had a find a server option and if they knew about it they didn’t join because of moderators.

The idea behind Beacon was to bring back that sense of finding a guild like in wow and accomplishing quests that would give them profile customizations or increase the guilds ranking on the platform. The sense of light competition with goals that are generated on Beacon gives more of a target communal aspect that isn’t seen from other platforms

Users joining would take a short survey that would give them a list of guilds that fit their needs. From there they could choose a guild and communicate with them on what their goals are as a community and get to know a large group of online people for friends and to play games with.

From here they can link their profiles of all their gaming libraries and launch games directly from the platform. This will track their data on what they like to play and what genres they like allowing them to match more with others of similar taste.

The game's genre output also gives players and guild members a chance to get achievements solo to show off and in a group to customize the look of their guild and how their ranking as a guild is. This is meant to put community first so that players support each other within the guild and give others light competition so they keep interacting and playing games with one another.

I wanted to create more UX UI designs and explore what I’m passionate about and what products could be improved upon. With this design and exploration I found something that I think could really help Gamers and build a community especially around one that involves their mental health. The community that people build is so important in lifting them up and video games are a great bridge for that especially with how the world is.
