Bengals vs Browns has been a heated rivalry for as long as both teams have resided in the state of Ohio. In 2023 they finally hit their 100th game rivalry. In the project it showcases an explainer video going over key aspects of what happened over the course of that time using TEGNA’s new road style and my own design techniques to create a contemporary motion piece that captivates audiences on this special event.

Celebrating their 100th game as rivals the Bengals and Browns both being from the same state wanted to share this momentous occasion with an explainer detailing some highlights from their heated rivalry. I came up with the style from TEGNA’s new road look and then mixed contemporary elements.

I went through AP images to find some action shots and shots of players to put together for this moment. I wanted everything to use its time players so that it could showcase the history between these two teams. It may not be the most noticeable but each team that is on screen switches between the two oranges that are used to illustrate which team is being talked about in the moment.

I used continuous movement throughout this video to keep in pace with the voice over and to make it engaging to viewers. I wanted to blend some of the New Roads style with new techniques to transition and make the graphic feel more contemporary and eye-catching for something that was local.

This piece won a Gold Dotcomm award for its style and animation. This piece was received very well from viewers and producers gaining tens of thousands of views from the tv’s all over Ohio.
